Connect the AI assistant your team already uses, like Claude or ChatGPT, to your TrueLoyal program and ask about it in plain language. The TrueLoyal MCP is in beta for select Rewards customers. To get started, your brand turns it on and then each person connects their AI assistant.
What's an MCP?
Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that lets AI assistants connect to the business software you already use. With the TrueLoyal MCP, your assistant can answer questions from your own members, rewards, receipts, and Fan Club™ content, instead of answering from general knowledge.
You bring the assistant. TrueLoyal brings your program data, inside the same permissions your team already has. There's no new interface to learn and no coding.
What your assistant can do
Your assistant answers questions about your members, points, rewards, and receipts, and can group and chart the results. You're in charge of what you ask and what you do with the answer. A few examples of what teams ask:
- Prep a business review: "Show points earned and redeemed by month this year, split by tier."
- Report points liability: "How many points are outstanding right now, and how many have members earned but never redeemed in the last 12 months?"
- Check program health: "How many members signed up last week, and how many of them have earned points since?"
- Find unused points: "Who are the 10 members with the most points who have never redeemed a reward?"
- Understand your members: "Group my members into four groups by how recently they purchased, how often, and how much they spent. What do they have in common?"
- Look inside the basket: "What else is in the basket when members buy our best-selling product?" (programs with receipt scanning)
- Plan your outreach: "Of my members, how many can I actually email? Break it down by subscription status."
- Work with Fan Club™ content: "Summarize last month's 1- and 2-star reviews" or "Find images in our library without alt text, write some, and tag them reviewed." (Fan Club™ customers)
Note: These examples are for illustration only. We'll add more capabilities during the beta.
Keep in mind
Your brand makes the decisions. The assistant answers questions. What you do with the answer is up to you and your team.
AI assistants can make mistakes, misread a question, or summarize data in a misleading way. Check important numbers against your TrueLoyal dashboard before they go into a report or a deck, and give a time period with every question so the number means something.
The assistant's wording is its own. When you share a summary of reviews or posts publicly, quote the original content rather than the summary.
What your assistant can access and change
Your assistant acts as the person who signed in. It sees only the TrueLoyal teams that have MCP turned on and that this person belongs to, and only what their role and board access allow. Nothing is visible to the assistant that the person can't already see in TrueLoyal.
| Area | Access in the beta |
|---|---|
| Members, point transactions, scanned receipts, rewards, activities, custom attributes | Read only |
| Counts, totals, rankings, trends, and member groups | Read only |
| Fan Club™ posts and reviews | Read; approve or hide posts; set tags, alt text, highlight, and pin |
| Fan Club™ assets | Read; update tags, collections, titles, descriptions, and alt text; archive or restore |
| Rewards, activities, rules, tiers, points, segments, member tags | Not available |
Important: In the beta, your loyalty program is read-only through the MCP. Nothing is ever permanently deleted, and every Fan Club™ change can be undone by updating the post or asset again.
Turn on MCP for your team
The TrueLoyal MCP is off until your brand turns it on. During the beta, it's available to select Rewards customers.
- Ask your Customer Success Manager to add your team to the MCP beta.
- Someone on your team whose role has the Can Manage Security Settings permission goes to Global Settings → MCP (in the left menu, below API).
- They switch on Enable MCP and click Save. Assistants can only reach teams that have it turned on.
You don't need a developer. MCP connections have their own sign-in, separate from your API integrations. Developers can also turn MCP on through the API: see Connecting AI Assistants.
Connect your AI assistant
Once MCP is on for your team, add TrueLoyal to your AI assistant and sign in with your own TrueLoyal login. The assistant then works with your permissions. A good first prompt is "List my TrueLoyal teams."
TrueLoyal MCP link: https://mcp.trueloyal.com
When you sign in, your assistant asks for permission to use parts of your account, such as members or posts. Grant the ones you want it to use. It still can't see more than your TrueLoyal role allows.
Claude (web, desktop, and Cowork)
On Claude Team and Enterprise plans, TrueLoyal is a team connector:
- An admin adds TrueLoyal once, in the organization's connector settings.
- Everyone else goes to Settings → Connectors, selects TrueLoyal, and selects Connect.
- Sign in with your TrueLoyal login and select Allow.
On other plans, go to Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector and add the TrueLoyal MCP link. For details, review the Claude connector documentation.
Claude Code
- Run this command in your terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http trueloyal https://mcp.trueloyal.com - Enter /mcp in Claude Code.
- Select trueloyal and sign in.
For details, review the Claude Code documentation.
ChatGPT
- Go to Settings → Security & login and turn on Developer mode. On Business and Enterprise workspaces, an admin may need to turn it on first.
- Go to Plugins and select + to add a custom MCP server.
- Add the TrueLoyal MCP link and sign in with your TrueLoyal login.
OpenAI moves these settings from time to time. If you don't see them, search the OpenAI Help Center for "developer mode".
Grok
- Start a chat and select +.
- Select Add connector → Custom.
- Add the TrueLoyal MCP link and sign in.
Other assistants
TrueLoyal also works with other assistants that support remote MCP servers with OAuth. Use the TrueLoyal MCP link and follow your assistant's steps for adding a custom connector. If you'd like to connect from an assistant not listed here, contact your Customer Success Manager.
Note: When an assistant TrueLoyal doesn't recognize connects for the first time, the sign-in screen shows a warning. Only continue if you set up that connection yourself.
Tools
The beta includes tools in these groups. We'll add more tools in future releases.
- Teams and account: list the TrueLoyal teams you can reach
- Members: search members and their custom attributes
- Transactions and receipts: search point transactions and scanned receipt details
- Rewards and activities: list rewards and the activities members earn points for
- Totals and groups: counts, sums, rankings, trends, and groups of members who behave alike
- Fan Club™ posts: search posts and reviews; approve or hide posts and update tags, alt text, highlight, and pin
- Fan Club™ assets: search assets and collections; update tags, collections, titles, descriptions, and alt text; archive or restore
The two tools that change Fan Club™ content are flagged, so assistants that support it ask for your approval before running them. Keep your assistant's approval prompts turned on.
For every tool and the permission each one needs, see the MCP Reference.
Good to know
- Large programs: searches return up to the first 10,000 matches. For totals across all members, ask for counts and groups instead of lists.
- Member groups: grouping works on the 10,000 most active members. In a large program, narrow to a smaller set first.
- Usage limits: each person and each team can make a limited number of calls per minute. If your assistant hits a limit, it's told how long to wait and tries again. See Limits.
- Heavy questions: very large counts over long date ranges can time out. Narrow the date window or split the question.
- Large reward catalogs: ask for a filtered or summarized view rather than every reward.
- Time zones: results are grouped in the time zone you give, or UTC if you don't. Name your time zone in the question.
- Groups aren't saved: member groups your assistant creates exist only in the conversation. They aren't saved as segments in TrueLoyal.
- Posts and creators: posts aren't classified by topic, and creators are ranked by number of posts, not engagement.
Troubleshooting
- You don't see the MCP setting in Global Settings: MCP hasn't been added to your team yet. Contact your Customer Success Manager.
- Your team doesn't show up in the assistant: your team list is captured when you sign in. If MCP was turned on for a team, or you were added to a team, after you connected, disconnect and reconnect TrueLoyal in your assistant. Turning the connector off and on again isn't enough.
- The assistant can't see some data: it only sees what your TrueLoyal role and board access allow. Ask your TrueLoyal admin to check your role. For more on roles, review Roles and Collaborators.
- An API token doesn't work: API integration tokens don't work with the MCP, and MCP sign-ins don't work with the API. Connect through your assistant and sign in with your TrueLoyal login.
- Something else isn't working: check your assistant's own documentation for connector issues. If your assistant reports an error from TrueLoyal, contact us.
Data and privacy
The TrueLoyal MCP is opt-in. It stays off until your brand turns it on, and anyone on your team whose role has the Can Manage Security Settings permission can turn it off at any time. The setting is in Global Settings → MCP. Each person signs in separately and sees only what their TrueLoyal role allows.
When you use the MCP, the data your assistant reads is processed by the AI provider you chose. Whether that data is used to train AI models depends on your provider and your plan with them, not on TrueLoyal. Review your provider's data policy before you connect.
AI assistants can make errors or behave in unexpected ways. TrueLoyal doesn't guarantee the accuracy of answers your assistant generates. You're responsible for reviewing the results before you act on them.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the TrueLoyal MCP, please don't hesitate to contact Technical Support at support@trueloyal.com.
